My Favorite Day in Texas

It is hard to pick which day was my favorite. I had lots of fun during the whole trip. I think I had the most fun on the third day. We were leaving Matagorda Island and heading to South Llano River State Park. As we were getting ready to leave the island, the park ranger came and talked to us. There was an old light house that was first lit in 1852. He drove us to it and unlocked it so we could go inside. I found this exciting because I enjoy history. Unfortunately, it was foggy so we could not see very far from the top. On the drive to the lighthouse, we saw some of the last Civil War trenches that were on the island. I thought it was interesting that during the Civil War many lighthouses were extinguished. This was done so they could not be seen by the union. As for the Matagorda Island lighthouse, the confederates tried to blow it up, and failed. After the war the light house was later restored and moved multiple times. I thought it was cool to go up into the lighthouse because people were not allowed in there for a long time. As we were leaving the island we saw two alligators, a hog, multiple bird species, white tail deer, Mediterranean house geckos, and dolphins. One of the buildings on the island had a big beehive between the windowpanes. When you put your hand on it you could feel the heat coming from the bees. I thought this was cool because I did not know bees produce that much heat. Once we got to South Llano River State Park, it was late, so we did not get to do much. We set up camp and prepared for more fun the next day. This trip will benefit me in the future because I got experience and learned a lot of new information that I would never learn in a classroom.
