My name is Ellen Anderson and I am from St. Francis, Minnesota. I went to school at Vermilion Community College before attending VCSU. I earned an Associate’s of Science in Fisheries and Wildlife Management there. I began school at VCSU in the fall of 2016. I am a double major at VCSU majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Science and Biology Education. I would like to pursue a career in Environmental Education. I enjoy the outdoors and the best way to preserve this is by educating our future generations. I also enjoy teaching others about the outdoors and working with kids.
I grew up spending a lot of time outdoors with my family. We spent most of our free weekends camping or traveling to a cabin in northern Minnesota. I have always enjoyed spending time outdoors and observing wildlife. I learned how to hunt and fish from family friends and got hooked. I really enjoy visiting northern Minnesota to hunt ruffed and spruce grouse and look for animals like moose and wolves. My love for the outdoors is why I decided to attend college for Fisheries and Wildlife Science.
I have always enjoyed traveling to new places. Learning about the different species we have in our ecosystems has made me really pay attention to new species when I travel. I have spent 2 summers working in North Dakota and Minnesota surveying stream fishes. I really like seeing the different types of fish that we have in these states, especially because most people have never heard of them. Texas has many different species of fish that are very different than the species found in the Midwest. I am looking forward to learning about the different species of fish, birds, and mussels in Texas on this trip.
