Dillon Praus

Texas field ecology biography

My name is Dillon Praus. I am originally from Dickinson, North Dakota. I am currently a Junior at Valley City State University studying fisheries and wildlife, with a focus in wildlife and conservation law enforcement. I love spending my free time hunting and fishing. One of my favorite things to do is go rabbit hunting in the badlands, which I have been doing ever since I was young. On top of that, I also really enjoy coyote hunting.

My fishing experience all started when I was younger, and I played in the small stream that ran through our property. I never caught anything besides bullheads and carp in that stream. They weren’t the best fish to keep but they were fun to catch. When I had no luck at catching a fish, I would try to catch frogs and turtles and that is when I found my love for the outdoors. I am very interested in finding new, strange looking fish and aquatic species that we don’t have here in North Dakota. Therefore, I really want to go on the Texas Field Ecology trip. I want to learn about and experience a new region that has different species of aquatic life. I am especially excited to catch saltwater fish and go snorkeling. I think it will be a great experience for me to observe fish’s behavior in their habitat.
