A Trip to Remember!

The first few days spent on Matagorda were absolutely amazing. The fantastic fishing was a fun time being able to catch red drum and a ton of speckled trout, a memory I will never forget. Matagorda was great for birding as I got to see birds I had never seen before such as brown pelicans, terns, black bellied whistling ducks and white ibises. On Matagorda was where I got to see my diamond back rattlesnake, cottonmouth and speckled king snake.

After all that I would have to say going to Mason Mountain WMA takes the cake for the best time. I learned so much there about how high fences work and the management that goes into them, it changed my perspective completely. Also getting to see the difference in how fire changes the landscape and seeing how the plants react to fire. Seeing the difference in ecology of having fire versus no fire was fascinating. Getting to see the Texas Horned Lizard was also a treat as I had never seen one, other animals we got to see were Gemsbok and Scimitar Oryx. We also got to see a lot of rattlesnakes, which I thought was amazing since I think they are one of the coolest animals.
